Cloud Readiness and Migration Checklist

Prepare a service for migration by checking dependencies, target operations, data reconciliation and recovery. Define cutover conditions, cost ownership and a complete handover before retiring the original environment.

An application connects to identity and database services inside a target boundary and a payment dependency outside it.

Plan the transfer of a working service

A migration changes more than hosting. Trace the service dependencies, establish how production data will move and define the conditions for accepting the target environment. This guide connects preparation, rehearsal, cutover and recovery with clear operating responsibility.

Inside the resource

01

Service scope and dependencies

Define the business outcome, service boundary, dependency sequence and constraints that shape the migration.

02

Data and target operations

Plan transfer, reconciliation, identity, connectivity, monitoring, backup and access in the target environment.

03

Cost, cutover and recovery

Assign cost ownership, rehearse the sequence and account for new writes when choosing whether to reverse or repair a cutover.

04

Readiness and service handover

Review eight readiness domains and use a cutover decision record to retain acceptance conditions and operating ownership.

A few practical details

Can this be used for one application?

Yes. Define that application's service boundary and include every dependency required for its critical tasks, even when the dependency stays in the original environment.

What must be rehearsed before cutover?

Rehearse the transfer sequence, data checks, routing changes, access, observable acceptance conditions and the recovery route. Measure elapsed time against the agreed service window.

When can the original environment be retired?

Retire it only after the target service is accepted and recovery, retention, audit and contractual requirements are satisfied. Remove residual access, integrations and charges as part of closure.
