Research and Experience
Usability Testing Session Kit
Plan and run moderated usability sessions with a participant brief, moderator prompts and reusable study records. Capture task outcomes, assistance and limitations, then turn the observations into prioritised changes and a clear retest plan.

From a task attempt to a specific product change
Define what the study must establish, prepare the environment and observe people completing a meaningful task. The kit provides practical moderation guidance and consistent outcome definitions, followed by separate records for the study plan, task observations and findings with accountable actions.
Inside the resource
Study planning and preparation
Set the research question, participant criteria, operating environment and observable completion conditions.
Participant briefing and moderation
Use reusable opening language, neutral follow-up prompts and clear rules for recording assistance and interruptions.
Observation and finding methods
Classify task outcomes consistently, preserve session context and prioritise findings by consequence and recoverability.
Three reusable study records
Complete a study plan, a task-and-observation record and a finding-and-action record for the work your team is undertaking.
A few practical details
Does every session need to be recorded?
No. Use the collection method agreed for the study. A separate observer can take notes; explain the arrangements to the participant before starting.
Which devices should the study cover?
Use the devices, channels and assistive tools relevant to the task and intended participants. Record the setup so findings can be interpreted in context.
How should the findings be prioritised?
Consider the consequence for the task, the ability to recover and the affected user contexts. Assign each accepted finding an owner and a condition for verifying the change.
